Why sunset is pure magic — and how to make the most of it

There’s a reason golden hour is every photographer’s dream. That soft, glowing light just before sunset wraps everything in warmth — and gives your portraits a romantic, cinematic feel you can’t replicate at any other time of day.

Here’s how to make sure you get the most out of those golden minutes:

Trust the light

Whether it’s wide-open fields or downtown rooftops, I’ll guide you to where the light is best. You don’t need to over-plan — I’ve got you.

Bonus tip: Sunset ≠ golden hour

Golden hour actually starts 30–45 minutes before sunset. That’s when the sky glows and shadows soften. Once the sun drops, we enter blue hour — cooler-toned, more moody, and also beautiful (especially for silhouette shots!).

BEHIND THE LENS

ABOUT Haley

Based in Connecticut, I’m a bubbly soul with a deep love for storytelling that’s both editorial and effortlessly candid.

My photography blends vibrant color with genuine emotion — capturing moments that feel alive, spontaneous, and beautifully intentional. I live for the in-between glances, the joyful chaos, and the kind of memories that deserve to be framed and felt forever.
